04 Nov High Temperature Synthetic Heat Transfer Fluid Playing Important Role in Organic Silicon Production
As the rapid development of Chinese economy, domestic consumption of building, automobile, electronics, daily chemicals and textile increases greatly, boosting domestic silicon industry to achieve the great- leap-forward development. Domestic organic silicon monomer capacity was 2.13 million tons in 2012 and 2.6 million tons in 2014. China has been the greatest silicon production and consumption country in the world.
Organic silicon monomer is the crucial raw material for manufacturing silicone oil, silicon rubber, silicon resin and silane coupling agent. The combination of several basic monomers generates thousands of organic silicon down-stream products. Organic silicon monomer is divided into many types including methyl chlorosilane, phenyl chlorosilane, trichloroethylsilane, trichloropropylsilane, trichlorovinylsilane, γ-chloropropyl trichlorosilane and fluorosilicone monomer. Methyl chlorosilane is about 90% of total monomers.
Synthesis of methyl chlorosilane is the core technique of organic silicon monomer manufacture. Manufacturers generally use direct synthesis process invented by General Electric Company in 1941 to produce methyl chlorosilane. Put certain quantity of ganister sand and catalyst into fluidized bed reactor. Use overheated chloromethane gas to be the fluidizing agent. And the mixed monomer of methyl chlorosilane is generated under the condition of over 290℃and 0.3MPa. This synthesis process is the only method adopted successfully in industrial production based on its easily obtained raw materials and easy continuous production. Mixed monomers are rectified and separated to generate different pure monomers which are hydrolyzed and cracked into various organic silicon intermediates. The intermediates are oligomers of polydimethylsiloxane or alkoxy silane which are used to produce silicone oil, silicon rubber and silicon resin.
As the synthesis process temperature of methyl chlorosilane requires over 290℃ which is only obtained by using high temperature synthetic heat transfer fluid. Fluid quality and stability directly affects product performance.
Using hydrogenated terphenyl fluid to heat synthesis process is the consensus of most methyl chlorosilane manufacturers. Hydrogenated terphenyl fluid has superior thermal stability and its maximum operating temperature is the highest among other liquid phase fluids, which guarantees the long-term stable operation under extremely high temperature. The high initial boiling point of hydrogenated terphenyl allows system to adopt liquid phase operation under normal pressure and has less design requirement of boiler, guaranteeing the operation safety. Synthetic reaction system can adopt the liquid phase forced circulation heating to simplify system heating process. Hydrogenated terphenyl has no corrosion to equipment, insuring system safety.
